Welcome to Fifth Grade! |
| Fifth
grade is the first year of Junior High at MSW and the students are
working towards greater independence and responsibility. We
emphasize self-respect and respect for those around us. In language arts, the students focus on the mechanics of language and on improving writing skills. Students study literature by working on projects, in and out of class, that correlate with novels they are reading. Fifth grade accelerated and regular math both require a new level of responsibility for the students to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests. Each student is required to keep a math notebook, containing all class notes and homework. Social studies features our nation, starting with the explorers and moving through U.S. history. Study skills the students are using include outlining, context clues, maps, charts and graphs. The science curriculum includes life process, interaction among living thins, the earth, weather, space, kinds of matter, and forms of energy. Family life will also be included in the science curriculum. Fifth graders will more fully explore the Sacraments in religion through the Blest Are We textbook.
