Welcome to Sixth Grade! |
| Sixth
grade students are getting used to changing classes and learning to be
more responsible for their work. In language arts, students focus on
literature and composition. Students learn the elements of literature.
They also read a variety of novels and prepare book reports. The writing
curriculum is co-taught, allowing for two teachers in the classroom with
the students as they learn grammar rules and usage and different types
of writing styles. Sixth grade accelerated and regular math both require
students to keep track of homework, quizzes and tests. Each student is
required to keep a math notebook, which is checked throughout the year.
Science covers four major units: earth's materials, changing surface of
the earth, earth's internal processes, and astronomy. These units are
supplemented by drug abuse and health units. Social studies covers
Africa, ancient civilizations and medieval times, and students will be
assessed on small and large projects in addition to homework, quizzes
and tests. In religion, students study the elements of our faith.
