Welcome to Seventh Grade!

Through greater responsibility for themselves and their school work, and more rigor in the academic disciplines, seventh grade students start to prepare for high school. In language arts, students focus on literature and composition. Higher-order thought processes are now required to analyze literature, including the ability to extract themes, and to critique text structure. The literary selections connect with the writing exercises to afford the students the opportunity to examine literature in a more personal way. The seventh graders study pre-algebra in accelerated and regular math classes, building on previously learned concepts and exploring new ones. In life sciences, students develop inquiring minds about the natural world around us. Students are encouraged to ask why and search for answers about plant and animal life. our seventh grade social studies curriculum focuses on U.S. History, beginning with a look at the first Americans, progressing to the U.S. constitution, and culminating with the Civil War. Along with the study of our country's rich history, we continue to build on our understanding of geography and current events. The theme for religion in seventh grade is the life of Jesus. Students study His life, values and teachings in preparation for Confirmation in eighth grade.
