School Celebrations of Faith
All School Liturgies
To celebrate our faith as a community, the entire Mary, Seat of Wisdom School family gathers together for monthly school liturgies throughout the year. Each month, a different grade level is responsible for developing the liturgical theme and music, and leading the prayers and readings. Each grade level’s assigned liturgy is a school tradition that extends back many years.
- 1st Grade: Christmas prayer service
- 2nd Grade: Thanksgiving prayer service and May Crowning
- 3rd Grade: All Saints liturgy
- 4th Grade: Ash Wednesday prayer service
- 5th Grade: Holy Thursday prayer service
- 6th Grade: Peace prayer service
- 7th Grade: End-of-year prayer liturgy
- 8th Grade: Start-of-year prayer service and May Crowning
Faith Partners
To foster faith sharing and facilitate mentoring, students in the lower grades are paired with students in upper grades to experience prayerful activities, participate in social outreach projects, and attend liturgies together. The customary arrangement of these ‘faith partner’ pairs is as follows:
- Grades 1 & 7
- Grades 2 & 8
- Grades 3 & 5
- Grades 4 & 6
A special part of the Faith Partner mentoring is the assigning of an eighth grade “Guardian Angel” to each kindergarten student. The eighth graders and kindergarteners form a special bond as they pray for each other throughout the school year.
Catholic Schools Week
The Chicago Archdiocese designates the last week of January each year as ‘Catholic Schools Week’ to celebrate Catholic education in the Chicago area. During this week, Mary, Seat of Wisdom School hosts several Open House events for prospective families and interested parishioners to visit and experience all that our school has to offer. In addition, current students and families celebrate together with a special liturgy, a family program and special activities for the students throughout the week. Please call the School Office at 847/825-2500 for information on Open House events for this year.
Unity Day
To foster relationships between our students and other Catholic school students from varied cultural and economic backgrounds, Mary, Seat of Wisdom School students participate in a day of unity with students from another Chicago-area Catholic school. Within the theme of ‘connections’, students from both schools join together in song, prayer and group activities. This event, sponsored by Family School Association, concludes with a church service where the children pray for a more unified world.
