Grade 3
Third grade is a time of transition for our students as they leave the cocoon of the lower grades and take on the new challenges and responsibilities. The students are moving on to new academic challenges as well.
Language Arts
- Explores literature, writing, comprehension, and critical thinking through various story themes.
- Celebrates reading achievement by becoming “Book Buddies” to Kindergarten students, which entails meeting weekly as a mentor to share the experience of reading.
Math
- Masters math facts and understand new concepts through large and small group work.
- Challenges students at mid-year to design a “math board game” to share with the class.
Science
- Focuses on themes of “How Living Things Function” and “The Earth in Space” Social Studies
- Focus on communities, including geography, government, citizenship, and culture, culminating in a trip to downtown Chicago in May.
Religion
- Studies the Ten Commandments, the Sacraments, and Saints of the Church.
- Hosts the All Saints Day Mass dressed as their patron saints.
- Enjoys meeting with their fifth grade Faith Partners.
