Grade 7
Through greater responsibility for themselves and their schoolwork, and more rigor in the academic disciplines, seventh grade students start to prepare for high school.
Language Arts
- Focuses on literature and composition.
- Requires higher-order thought processes to analyze literature, including the ability to extract themes, and to critique text structure.
- Connects the literary selections with the writing exercise to afford the students the opportunity to examine literature in a more personal way.
Math
- Studies pre-algebra in both accelerated and regular math, building on previously learned concepts and exploring new ones.
Science
- Focuses on life science including animal and plant cells, heredity, and the human body systems including bones, muscles and skin, circulation, respiration and excretion, the nervous system, endocrine and reproduction.
- Strengthens learning with science lab experiments.
- Requires accurate note taking throughout the year to prepare for high school.
Social Studies
- Centers on U.S. History, beginning with a look at the first Americans, progressing to the U.S. constitution, and culminating with the Civil War.
- Builds an understanding of geography and current events.
Religion
- Explores life of Jesus.
- Studies His life, values, and teachings in preparation for Confirmation in eighth grade.
- Enjoys meeting with their first grade Faith Partners.
