Grade 8
Our eighth grade students are completing their tenure at MSW. Our goal is that by the end of the year they are prepared for high school and for the world beyond by the end of the year.
Language Arts
- Requires thinking, questioning, connecting, and discussing of literature in thoughtful and educated ways, through a variety of approaches to literary analysis.
- Connects literary selections with the writing assignments allowing students to examine literature in greater depth.
- Introduces drama and students see literature come to life through plays.
Math
- Transitions accelerated and regular math students to algebra I, with attention given to maintaining skills and introducing new concepts.
Science
- Focuses on physical science, studying matter, energy, chemistry, and physics.
- Enhances learning with science lab experiments.
- Teaches the basics of the atom and the periodic table.
- Teaches the basics of programming and robotics.
- Requires accurate note taking throughout the year to prepare for high school.
Social Studies
- Teaches U.S. history beginning with the Reconstruction period and extending through present day.
- Allows the students travel to Washington D.C. to experience U.S. history more closely and see democracy in action.
Religion
- Enhance each students Connection with Christ through our all school theme.
- Prepares students throughout the day for the Sacrament of Confirmation by developing a deep, personal relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer, commitment, sacrament, and service.
- Using the text, Blest Are We – The Story of Our Church, the students will explore the rich history of our Church.
- Enjoys meeting with their second grade Faith Partners.
