Clubs
Mary, Seat of Wisdom provides opportunities for interested and qualified students to participate in many, varied activities.
Academic Quiz Bowl
An eighth grade academic team that participates in Q&A format competitions. Students are recommended for participation by faculty and meet for one-hour sessions once or twice a week to prepare for competitions.
Art Club
This after school art club is open to all interested students in first through eighth grade.
Band
Students participate in small group instrumental lessons and with a larger group, to experience the combined efforts of brass/woodwind/percussion groups in band concerts and contests.
Battle of the Books
The Park Ridge Public Library hosts this program in which a team of Mary, Seat of Wisdom students compete against other schools in a reading comprehension competition. Students compete to answer questions about selected books from a list the library provides. The books are read on the participants’ own time. Students may be recommended by faculty or may sign up. Preparation meetings are held during lunch hour and the “Battle” meets are held from October through February.
Chess Club
An after school club to instruct, practice, and organize tournament opportunities for students mastering the game of chess.
Opportunity Room
Seventh and eighth graders meet for an hour after school every weekday to complete homework assignments. Students do not need to participate for the entire school year.
Junior Great Books
An enrichment program for third through eighth graders in which students meet during lunch once a week for three months to discuss an assigned reading. Readings are done on the students’ own time. A read aloud program is offered during class time for Kindergarten through second grade students.
Kids Who Care
Students in third through eighth grades are invited to work on coordinating service projects with our twinning school. Meetings are generally held during lunch.
Rainbows for All God’s Children
A yearlong discussion/activity group for children who have experienced a loss of some kind either through divorce or death. Rainbows is open to students in first through eighth grades and meets during lunch.
School Play
A summer theater workshop open to student in fourth through eighth grades that culminates in a play performance open to the community. Past performances have included The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Annie, and The Little Mermaid.
Scouting
A full scouting program for boys and girls is organized by parent volunteers and offered to interested students and their families.
Student Council
Student government leaders are elected in the spring of the previous year and are responsible for planning and coordinating activities throughout the school year. Classroom representatives are elected by their peers in the fall. Meetings are held at lunch and/or before and after school as needed.
Yearbook
Students have the opportunity to photograph school events and arrange pages that depict the year’s activities for the annual yearbook.
