Extra-Curricular Clubs and Activities
Mary, Seat of Wisdom provides opportunities for interested and qualified students to participate in many varied activities:
Art Club
After-school art club opportunities are open to all interested students in Grades 1-8. Meetings take place after school until approximately 4:30 with the faculty sponsor. Interested students should watch for announcements of the current Art Club offering on Ms. Slaboch's webpage.

Athletics
To attend to the physical education needs and interests of the Mary, Seat of Wisdom students, the interscholastic athletic program is open to all students in Grades 4-8. The MSW Athletic Committee is responsible for developing policies to address issues such as playing time, cuts, etc. Please refer to the Athletic Handbook, which can be found on the website, for more information. Participating students must have a completed Sports Physical before the season begins.

Audio-Visual Club
Children will use the iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes programs to create a live action movie that can be made into a DVD for students to keep and/or for MSW publicity purposes. Students in Grades 6-8 are invited to join. Meetings will take place after school.

Band
A fine arts opportunity for students in Grades 4 - 8 to participate in small group instrumental lessons and to experience the combined efforts of brass/woodwind/percussion groups in band concerts and contests.

Battle of the Books
Students read selected books on their own time from a booklist provided by the Park Ridge Public Library. Group members then meet to discuss the books and prepare for "battle" (quiz-bowl-type competition) against other area schools. Students may be recommended by faculty or may sign up with the faculty sponsor. Weekly preparation meetings take place at lunchtime starting in October. "Battles" take place at the Park Ridge Library during the months of January and February and consist of eight one-hour meets.
Choir
An opportunity for students in Grades 3-8 to learn choral music, sing at school liturgies, and perform in various venues. Meets Tuesdays in the Music Room (Room 107) at 7:30 - 8:05 a.m.

Creative Connections
A collection of student writing (Grades 3 to 8) supplemented by student artwork (Grades 1 and 2). Students may submit materials to the editing committee, which makes the final selection and prepares Creative Connections for publication in the spring. Announcements are made reminding students to turn in their submissions, which are accepted throughout the school year.

Kids Who Care
4th through 8th graders are invited to work on coordinating the St. Angela's Christmas party and additional service projects throughout the school year. Meetings take place at lunchtime and will be announced. This club may also meet before or after school as needed. Meetings begin in October.

Math Club
The firth grade math club provides an opportunity for students to study and work on basic math skills. In these hour-long sessions they will study math facts, learn strategies to help solve word problems, and review math skills that are being taught during the school day. The math club will give students the opportunity to be nvolved in a small group setting while strengthening their math skills. The math club meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15 in Room 213.

MSW Parish Children’s Ensemble
Students in grades 3-8 who are interested in singing are invited to join the Children’s Ensemble. Students who play instruments such as the violin, flute, guitar, drums or piano are also invited to join, but these students must be enrolled in private lessons, and are expected to sing as well. The Children’s Ensemble will lead song on the second Sunday of each month at the 10:30 mass, and also help with services on Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, First Communion, and Graduation. Rehearsals are on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 2:40 for instruments and 2:45 to 3:30 for vocalists.

MSW Strings
MSW Strings offers a comprehensive and balanced curriculum based on the successful Traditional European Method for students starting in Grades 1-4. Nutcracker
The entire fourth grade class presents the Nutcracker. Rehearsals for student groups are held before and after school from October to November. The Nutcracker is performed during school hours for the student body and at an evening performance for family and friends.

Patrol
Students, under the supervision of the faculty sponsor, will help cross parents and students before and after school at designated intersections near school property. Interested students in grades 5-8 should watch for the announcement in the e-mail blast to sign up. A rotating schedule of assignments is put in place for the school year. Patrols arrive at school early and are on post from 7:50 until 8:15 in the morning; afternoon shift is from 3:00 until 3:20.

Quiz Bowl
Quiz Bowl is an interscholastic academic competition sponsored by the area Catholic High Schools. Teams compete to answer questions about reading, math, history, current events, geography, sports and trivia. Students on the MSW Quiz Bowl team are recommended for participation by the faculty and attend practice 2 days each week. Quiz Bowl competitions take place in October through December. Quiz Bowl is made up of 8th grade students.

Rainbows for All God's Children
A yearlong discussion/activity group for children who have experienced a loss of some kind in their lives through either death or divorce. Rainbows is open to students from Grades 1-8 and meets during lunch. The program will be announced in the e-mail blast, and interested parents may contact one of the teacher facilitators to enroll their child.

Student Council
Student government leaders are elected in spring of the previous year and are responsible for planning and coordinating activities throughout the school year. Classroom reps are elected by their peers in the fall. Meetings are held at lunch and/or before and after school as needed.

Wisdom Players
An opportunity for students in Grades 2-8 to learn and participate in all aspects of "putting on a show". Students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 are invited to join in special group scenes. There are annual productions in the Fall and Spring and performing opportunities throughout the school year. Some auditions take place for certain parts. Rehearsals are posted on Ms. Gibson's website once shows are cast. There is no fee charged for being part of Wisdom Players; this has been made possible by the support from some of the school's fundraising events throughout the year.
